    Learning Java

Tomcat documentation makes me want to cry.

(This should probably be a rant-that-doesn't-deserve-its-own-thread, but I suspect that I'm going to be posting/venting a lot of these...)

    Please accept my sincere condolences.

Is this something masochistic, in pursuit of a degree, a job ... what?
Given all the languages out there, what compels you to attempt to learn Java ... if you don't mind me asking?

I've heard from multiple sources that Java is a money-maker.

What's so difficult about the Tomcat documentation... are you using Eclipse?

The new currency API isn't going to be introduced until Java9.

Once you have a grip on the basics of the Java language and infrastructure, it might be worthwhile to have a look into Transactional Memory and Clojure programming, especially if you are interested in the rapid development and maintenance of highly concurrent software running on big[1] machines.

[1]: "big" might be an overstatement: 8-core desktop processors are readily available. The advantages of the Clojure approach begin to really shine for long-running software on machines of this size and larger (IMO).
