The INTP Library: Books, Movies, TV, Music, etc.

A potential purpose of compiling such lists would be to develop content that would likely attract INTP types - even if they aren't familiar with MBTI - in the form of Wiki Articles and/or discussion threads.

The purpose of this thread is to compile a list from each of the below categories that members think belong in an INTP library or collection.

    Books - Fiction
    Books - Non Fiction
    Music
    Movies
    Documentaries
    TV Series
    Other - please identify

    For example:

    Books - Non Fiction:
    Title: Thinking, Fast and Slow
    Author: Daniel Kahneman

    TV Series:
    NOVA - Becoming Human

    Books - Non Fiction:
(More a creative philosophy treatise than an architecture book)
Title: The Timeless Way of Building, according to wikipedia
    Author: Christopher Alexander

(I cannot more highly recommend these two for INTPs interested in creative writing)
    Title: Narrative Technique
    Author: Thomas H. Uzzell

Title: (The Art and the Business of) Short Story Writing
    Author: Walter B. Pitkin

    (Now, the obvious one, imo)
    Title: Please Understand Me II
    Author: David Keirsey

    Books - Fiction:
(A tight mythological tale about 12 magical swords, each with their own unique power, created by the gods and distributed among mankind for the sake of the gods' amusement; part of the appeal is in the what-trumps-what games between the different swords' powers, another is when and how mankind turns these weapons against their creators)
    Series: The Books of Swords
    Author: Fred Saberhagen

    (more obvious ones)
    Book: Neuromancer
    Author: William Gibson

    Books - Non Fiction/Pop Science:

(Amusing, not particularly rigorous reads for those interested in speculative cosmology if not simply cosmological imaginations)

    Book: Programming the Universe
    Author: Seth Lloyd

    Book: The Holographic Universe
    Author: Michael Talbot

(this one is just an amusing read of one guy's take on a 10 dimensional cosmology/cosmography; can't even really be considered "science" as much as one guy's adaptation of sciency stuff into his creative vision of the higher-dimensional cosmos)

    Book: Imagining the Tenth Dimension
    Author: Rob Bryanton

Along these lines, you have various works by Michio Kaku and Bryan Greene

    Books - Fiction

Lord of Light - Roger Zelazny (cannot recommend it enough)
    Snow Crash - Neal Stephenson
Farseer Trilogy - Robin Hobb (main character is as INTP as they come, seriously)

    Books - Non Fiction

Any narrative history of the Great Game you can find. The most INTP political rivalry there's ever been.

A Brief History of Time - Stephen Hawking (mind = blown)

    Music

I don't know that my tastes represent INTP music but I'll give it a try. Amethystium, Craig Armstrong.

    Movies

Not a big movie watcher but I'll second Gattaca and throw in Inception.

    TV Series

    GITS : SAC!!!!

I had a heavy session of nitrous oxide with a dentist a few months after reading Neuromancer. This was during my early twenties. Laying in the chair at the bottom of a nitrous induced well, staring up through a tunnel at a tiny dentist and nurse, I remember thinking to myself over and over "I get Gibson!".

Neuromancer is one of my favorites.

Gibson's short story "Burning Chrome" is a convenient introduction to his work (IMO).
