    Amateur Music Production Thread

RETROACTIVE EDIT: This Thread is for discussion of Amateur Music Production in general, as there seems to be a few of us who dabble. Non-amateurs are welcome to comment as well. We now resume the regularly scheduled thread...
    ___

    I Need a Mac?

I wrote that as a question, because I'm not sure I really do. But (as I had mentioned to @stuck in a different thread), I am interested in using Logic Pro X. The interface seems far more intuitive to me than other similar software I've interacted with, and as music is a passion of mine, I want to equip myself with best chance of succeeding.

To that end, I've decided I might want to purchase a Mac. I've never owned a Mac.

    My current PC rig contains:

    Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3P
    Intel i7 2600-K
    8GB (2 X 4GB) Corsair CML8GX3M2A1600C9
    AMD Radeon 6970 1GB
OCZ Vertex 3 120 GB SSD (contains OS and most software)
WD 1TB HDD (data, and some software - lots of free space)
    Windows 7 Home Premium

So, I see my options as follows:

    1) Attempt to partition my current drive and install a pirated version of OS X. I'm not sure whether it can even be done with my current equipment, and I'm extremely scared of screwing up my machine. I'm not a power user on hardware, so the thought of performing surgery on my machine is daunting. Following software/bios/config steps is not as daunting. But it's no understatement to say that I have very little idea what I'd be doing.

    2) My Dell laptop recently ate shit, so I could opt to purchase a Macbook to replace it. I would then be able to use it for a dual purpose (general use laptop when I'm out of the house, as well as Logic Pro X workstation, using a port replicator of some sort). However, these fuckers are expensive...I'd be looking at $2,000 to get something halfway decent.

    3) I've been looking at the Mac Minis. Apparently, people say it does fine with Logic Pro X, so long as you get the i7 processor. Upgrading the memory and storage is probably also a must. Price tag on that is around $1,199 (assuming best CPU, 8GB memory, 250GB SSD)

    4) Build a new, dedicated, Hackintosh. Components for a reasonable rig here would run about $850 - $1,000 depending on some of my choices. And I'd be picking from a list of approved, tested components, so compatibility would hopefully not be an issue. It would be more powerful than the Mac Mini. But then again, I'm back to having to pirate OS X onto a machine, as well as build one.

What do you think I should do? Any advice, and personal experience, would be appreciated.

This just in: I'm accepting all friend requests too unless you're a fricken jerk and I can't stand your existence and inane drivel. If that's the case, then I'll accept your friend request so I can keep an eye on your ass unless you don't hold any interest for me; then only the threat of keeping my eye on you stands. feces

Ha...sorry about that. I don't have anything productive to say. I just like using the word "sheeple."

The sarcasm is fine, but I'm just hoping if we keep bumping the thread, someone who knows something will show up.
