    Printmaking

Who has a background in printmaking?

If I had the chance to start over in art school @ age 18, then I'd almost certainly major in printmaking (seems like a great space to converge painterly+digital+spatial processes). My current experimentation/dilettantism is somewhat painful to look at, but I think some of the methods I'm developing are promising.

Here's the current print I'm working on.. It's lino block to digital, more than a square meter in size (56x43 inches).

    Slightly zoomed in.

    Details.

Currently laboring over what to keep/get rid of in term of details.

Here's a series I made from a set of botched photo polymer plates (too many pixels per inch for each layer, so I decided to not waste nice paper):

I may try this again in the near future.

Your prints look great! I love the bits that look like fire - keep those details. I only ever did one linoprint when I was at school, would love to do more but I don't have the resources for it.

^^^What he said. You're work is getting more interesting to me. I'm not wholly sure what your print is meant to be, but whatever you were playing at has had an attractive result. I also dig the inherent belligerence. It's good to work that shit out. Then you get to blow people's minds again when you apply what you learned in totally different way.

I never got to work with prints, but I did read about the process. There was a really interesting destructive technique involving sculpting a block of linoleum, the make prints of successive slices. The sad thing is, I don't even remember what the effect was--I can't remember how the end product was assembled or anything. I just remember it was something really cool.

    Whelp. That got depressing.

    Reduction block printing?

It can achieve a variety of desired effects. Here's a reduction (or suicide) block print:

Not officially, but all of my prints have monotype elements, i.e. the point where I abandon my plans and get all painterly with the lino block/photopolymer plate/whatever... It's always more interesting to me, but the results are almost never reproducible.
