    Types of English

Saw this test. A trifle more interesting and useful than most online tests as it is training an algorithm to automatically detect English dialects and/or the native language of the speaker.

I got South African as the number 2 guess for the English dialect list and Finnish as the number 1 guess for the native languages (English wasn't in the top 3). I don't think it is very good at picking up on non-American English dialects as native forms.

It picked up that you were a non-native English speaker, though. Maybe that part works, even if the nationality is wrong.

Right on the number ones. Wrong on everything else. Where do they get Portuguese? I've been to Portugal and Brazil but didn't understand a damn thing they said in Portuguese and little in English (mostly). Rio is great but one of the places I've felt least safe as a traveler--also, a friend's son was knifed there. Good luck with FIFA and the Olympics--what were they thinking?
