    Scottish Independence Referendum

It's kind of soon. Are non-Scots even aware that this is a thing?

I don't have a dog in that fight, but it seems to me that the independence movement is more about emotion than logic.

Can you build a metaphor to Game of Thrones so I can understand?

Too soon? It's been over 300 years, man! All of the cool countries already established their independence from England.

Listen, you can do this. If you try and it doesn't work, I'm sure you could convince another European power to colonize you again. If you asked nicely I'm sure Germany would be thrilled to be invited.

    David Wong, regarding Chicago
Six centuries ago, the pre-Colombian natives who settled here named this region with a word which in their language means "the Mouth of Shadow". Later, the Iroquois who showed up and inexplicably slaughtered every man, woman and child renamed it "Seriously, Fuck that Place". When French explorer Jacques Marquette passed through the area he marked his map with a drawing of a brownish blob emerging from between the Devil's buttocks.

Old Man Craster is taking a stand and protesting that he's independent from Mance's legion.

Ah, so the north sea oil reserves are akin to the babies he eats.

To the eyes of a vastly superior alien being, there would be little distinction between the distribution and consumption of the remains of ancient sea flora versus distribution and consumption of the remains of misbegotten children.

I voted "What?" because, unless you are a Scottish National, it really isn't a question for us to answer. I agree that their are a lot of emotional and historical ghosts, but I imagine there must be some advantage to remaining in union as well. ...or they would have long ago voted to dissolve the bond.

If they did leave the union, I wonder if the UK would re-design the Union Jack???

As long as it doesn't affect our nation's supply of butterscotch for the coming ice cream season, I'm cool with it.

I've never even had Scotch, so I can't comment on that. Irish Whiskey can be good, though.
