    Interesting Quotes.

Post a quote, say what it means to you or discuss the quotes others post.

All of human unhappiness comes from one single thing: not knowing how to remain at rest in a room. ~ Blaise Pascal
I found this quote in a book about investing. What does it mean?

Oh, I find it hard to believe no one has a quote they want to share.

Come on, INTP up, my peeps!

As afar as my quote goes, the chapter in which it twas quoted went on to say the advent of internet trading feeds the desire to rapidly trade several companies a day and the modern trader does not stay at rest.
Stand clear of the closing doors, please.

I run into quaint quotes all the time. I never have any talent for remembering them for later however.

Your investment quote is interesting, for it can refer to many modern investment phenomenon. When one trades often, there are really only two ways to make money: be the institution taking a cut on every trade made, or be an institution running algorithmic micro-trades. The later is only really possible if you're already in an institution, because they have a physical advantage over any retail trader both due to the lack of transaction costs, and also because their hardware is often at an absolute advantage, being closer to the market/directly connected to the market rather than anything an individual could access.

The quote itself almost has a buddhist air about it, a lesson on contentment.

I read the quote not as a lesson on contentment but as praising unhappiness. Nobody ever did anything just sitting still in a room.

The most essential feature of the human mind is it's off switch and the most essential skill is in knowing where it is and how to use it.
Society is like a stew. If you don’t stir it up every once in a while then a layer of scum floats to the top.

Some people are more certain of everything than I am of anything - Robert Rubin

    And on that note,

    Lyrics:
    The more I see

    The less I know
About all the things I thought were wrong or right
    & carved in stone
    So, don't ask me about
    War, Religion, or God
    Love, Sex, or Death
    Because....
Everybody knows what's going wrong with the world
But I don't even know what's going on in myself.

"I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today." - J. Wellington Wimpy (1932)
The global warming thread/human nature got me thinking about this quote. It explains many economic and human nature realities. People tend to want stuff now, and to pay for it later. And I like this has been illustrated clearly by a cartoon character decades ago (so it's not likely human nature is going to change anytime soon).
