    Rap / Hip-hop

Instead of flooding the other thread with this music, I thought we could have a specific thread for posting good rap or hip hop music. (And anyone is welcome to school me on why I shouldn't lump these two together.)

Mostly I'm listening to really old stuff right now but I'd appreciate any newer reccomendations of songs or albums (if you're gonna post an album I'd like to know which are the best songs in it), either from the US or other countries, in English or other languages. I'm partial to anything with a leftist bent but I'm okay with the primitive gangsta stuff too. I haven't done any active listening in years, but I've recently found myself wanting to listen to music - probably because my sleep schedule's fucked - and rap has a certain aggressive/detached quality that fits my mood these days.

Kicking it off with a song. I'm kinda mesmerized by old west coast rap right now. Even though I've grown up hearing this music, I never really stopped to consider how fun a lot of it is.

I will fill this thread. Fair warning: I've listened to rap/hip hop all my life and am worn out with a lot of stuff so I actually listen to relatively new and not-so-good things in a sort of "seek" mode trying to decide who's around to stay and who's about to blow up or whatever.

I do revisit the classics though, the past week or so has been Big L (mid-nineties NYC)..

Vevo vid - this one makes me smile

Okay, so links to Vevo vids on Youtube won't play on the forum.. Next best thing is unofficial remixes with some of the original video..

Speaking of Big Sean, this song has been fueling my latest hot-for-teacher kicks..

Oh fuck I'm going to love this thread. Gangsta rap is a really good place to start, very easy to enjoy.

Some of the classics from my favorite rap subgenre: chill. incorporates lots of jazz elements.

notdavidlynch - I loved "Ebonics", that was a good first song for the thread. Also "Freestyle", I fucking love diss songs for some reason. xD I guess I like Big L's style but there's one thing, his voice isn't deep enough or something. Maybe it just takes some getting used to.

As for the 2 Chains song (xD) and Big Sean's "MILF", I absolutely do not like these songs, they are terrible and I am shaking my head right now in total shock and disgust. Yeah. More guilty pleasure from Me and my broken heart.

Neville - if you're gonna post a whole album I gotta listen to it later, but I listened to a bit and I liked it so far.

jamesgold, I think "chill" music isn't really what I'm most drawn to right now but I can totally see myself listening to it in another mood. I especially liked Soul of Mischief.

Edit: wtf I can barely catch up here.

    Bahahaha.

Rap in general isn't exactly feminist.
