    Getting your first place.

So guys I'm moving. Does anyone have any tips for someone setting up an apartment? I've done this once before and well it didn't go very well. I have someone giving me a bunch of furniture and I have some basic stuff. But I don't really have a bed(at least not one I want to take). Any have any tips on what places to check out for good stuff or what the most important things for a new apartment are? I'm looking at I will have about 1k to furnish my apartment I already have a TV computer, couch ,chairs some end tables and a dresser.

When I first moved out I thought the same thing. The somehow I just ended up with all this stuff over time.

If an item has a home you will buy less stuff and not be in a constant state of mess. Messes can get so out of hand when nothing has a place to go and after you clean it still looks like pilled up crap. Bad for mental hygiene.

Unless you are master of neatness, the piles happen.

EDIT: If the place doesnt come with a dishwasher getting a little countertop one is a great idea. Totally worth the money.

There's a lower-effort way to stop fruit flies breeding in your kitchen. They lay eggs in the P-trap under your sink, but that can be defeated with an oil slick. A small amount of motor oil works like a charm there.
