    Work Music

Hey, this seemed like a thread. Anybody have favorites/recommendations of stuff they listen to while working?

I find it helps me a lot to have audio input during long paperwork binges. It keeps my ADD busy to have patterned sounds on in the background.

Anyway, for me personally, I need something atmospheric but kind of punchy and stimulating, and it must be purely instrumental (as in no lyrics, at least in any language I understand) or it defeats its purpose.

I've listened to the shit out of this Glitch Mob album while grading papers in the wee hours over the last few months, and I think it may be time to move on.

I'm just sort of out of the loop on music lately. Anyone have any suggestions?

I'd recommend pretty much anything by Four Tet: Prefuse 73 has been characterized as "instrumental hip hop", some of his songs include rap but for the most part I think it's nice and rhythmic but unintrusive: Autechre might be closer to what you're looking for, for me it's a bit much for working but amazing music nonetheless:

@pathogenetic_peripatetic 's music reminded me that I completely forgot about the best work music I've ever listened to: Gramatik.

One huge mix track comes to mind which I've driven long distances to as well as gotten reports banged out. Girl Talk - All day:
Love it when ELO Mr Blue sky kicks in and sometimes I'm distracted a bit when the Wish I was a lil' bit taller/T'Pau heart and soul mix comes on at this point: https://www.youtube.com/watch?featur...JrvnJvg#t=1142

edit: MP3 is actually a free download here: http://illegal-art.net/girltalk/

If Song of the Volga Boatmen doesn't apply you aren't actually working.

Glimpses do ye seem to see of that mortally intolerable truth; that all deep, earnest thinking is but the intrepid effort of the soul to keep the open independence of her sea; while the wildest winds of heaven and earth conspire to cast her on the treacherous, slavish shore?

This is from one of my "in the zone" work playlists.

Otherwise I work-zone-out to primarily chiptune, edm, techno, dubstep or electronica otherwise.

Good examples of chiptunishness I like, as such:

    Closer to dubstep...
