is there a thread to discuss volunteer experiences?
Cut out all these exclamation points. An exclamation point is like laughing at your own joke.

Has anyone enrolled their kid into a language immersion school before? Or any teachers familiar enough to know the pros and cons of pursuing that route?

Voting in Australia is compulsory but it is also very easy to do. We always have elections on a Saturday and you can choose to vote ahead of time if you wish. How do people in the US manage to actually vote given that voting is on a weekday?

Is election day made a public holiday? Do employers allow employees to leave the workplace to go and vote? Are people required to vote near where they live or can they vote at any polling place? Are polling places open outside of business hours to make it easy for 9-5 workers to vote? I have heard reports of very long lines; how common is this experience? How long does it typically take to vote?

Many employers do let you go. Some people go before or after work, or on their lunch break. Many employ early voting or mail in ballots.

If I owned property in Northern California, would I be a disgusting disaster profiteer that takes advantage of the displaced people by charging 2-4x the amount of typical rent just because I know insurance companies will pay for it? I like to think I wouldn't be. I suppose it's for the best that I can't find out.
