    Goat Watch 2014

The Gavle Goat has risen again for 2014! How long do you think it will survive this year?

For those of you who are just joining us, you can read a bit about the history of the goat here. Sadly the wikipedia article no longer has a detailed list of the fates of the goats throughout the year.

The fate of the 2013 goat is unclear. I seem to recall reading the powers that be have started to take goat security much more seriously, so burnings may be on the way out.

Oh, it burned last year. Can't remember when exactly... sometime around Dec 20th.

I just realised in re-reading the timeline that in 1988 English bookmakers started taking bets on goat burning. Makes me kind of want to head down the street to Ladbrokes and see if it's on the books this year.

Several masked persons set it on fire on Dec 21 at 4 in the morning (Här brinner bocken).

Edit. I like how the headline is "Here burns the goat". It has a fatalistic quality to it and expresses no surprise at all.

The unfortunate fates of the Gävle Goat: A graphical timeline.

    Some examples:

2004: The goat's website is hacked, and "burn the fucking goat" is displayed on its webcam.

2005: A costumed Gingerbread Man and Father Christmas shoot flaming arrows at the goat.

2010 someone attempted to kidnap the goat with a helicopter. I wonder how many of these things have been arranged by the tourist centre of Gävle.

    Twitter reports a downed goat.

But it appears that there are TWO goats! There's one standing in the background!
I wanna see your goodreads, so add me.
