    Devise a single-question MBTI test

This comment made me think - could we come up with a single question with 16 possible answers that would sort people into MBTI types with a significantly greater than random chance? Random chance here being about 6.25%. I'm thinking that some sort of hypothetical social situation would be the best bet. Personally I don't have any ideas yet, but let's brainstorm this.

One question psycho analysis? Like drive-through therapy which you pop in the microwave when you get home? Take the quiz during one TV commercial?

    I LOVE IT!

It would have to be a damn long question.

I like the idea of making a social situation simulation with "What do you do?" questions, though. Like in RPGs (mostly TES) when you get a class assigned to you.

    Easy.

Which of the following lists of traits do you most identify with?

    (list of INTP traits)

    (list of ENTP traits)

    (etc...)

But that's just not very practical. Makes for a long read!

I saw a 4 question test once, that basically decided I vs E, S vs N, T vs. F, and J vs. P....but it didn't work very well. The T traits were more appealing to many Fs than the F traits, so that skewed a bunch of answers. Same for some of the other traits.
In any case, I think an effective 4 question test could be devised.

I think any answer to the problem will end up being a long read. You could make it into a flowchart, though you could also argue that that's more than one question.

It would be cool though to try to judge type by someone's handling of a single social situation.

    "Why?"

That could lead to some free form answers from hell. An impressionistic response is harder for a test taker to consciously manipulate in order to achieve a desired outcome. (SEE! I am an INTP! Etc, etc)

Oh, I didn't know we were talking about a human interpreter. In that case, sure.
