Problem: Accessing the data on an Android phone

    I've got a phone with a broken screen - samsung galaxy S4

Basically I'm looking for a way to get the contacts off the phone.
-I can access the file system from my PC, get pictures and and other files etc. but don't know if it will allow me access to files with the actual contacts, and haven't found anything that hints of having the data I'm looking for.
-I refuse to buy a new screen for it.
-I refuse to pay for a software app that claims to be able to do it (requiring USB debugging mode on - defeating the purpose since can't access the screen)
-Samsung Kies is not connecting to the phone - suggesting it must be done with Samsung Switch. (I'm guessing KIES actually needs me to set an option via the phone settings for it to connect.)
-I'd rather avoid the hardware options such as borrowing parts from someone elses phone for now.
-I still believe there should be a way to do it via software connection to a PC.

So far my searches for info on this have been obscured by a lot of crap and dodgy software and just general crap on the internet (advertising in disguise etc).
I know there is a lot of free open source software out there, but search through it all.... I don't know

Anyway, I thought I'd try asking here to see if there's any clever suggestions or solutions to the problem.
eg. recommend a program, or a way to uncover the hidden stuff in the phone, find where the files containing the contacts data is actually located etc.

    Cheers,

    Adam.

    check:
    /data/data/android.providers.contacts/databases
    /data/data/com.motorola.blur.providers.contacts/databases/contacts2.db
    /data/data/*.providers.contacts/databases/*.db

    or use this software: http://www.fjsoft.at/en/

    Thanks for that,

I got my-phone-explorer working on my other phone, but now I'll have to find a way to turn USB debugging on on the broken-screen S4. There may be a way to access the display via plugging into a monitor via a HDMI adapter.
