Enneagram Typology: valuable alternative or flimsy fluff

i have noticed that there is little to no discussion of the enneagram types or tritypes on this forum, and i was wondering why that is... that entire system seems rather wishy-washy and inexact to me... anyhow, i did bother to self type in that system... have any of you done so? for those that have, do you mind sharing your results?

i settled on 9w1 5w6 4w5 sx/sp for myself... if there is something related to the enneagram system that you would like to comment on (that i failed to bring up) i would be interested in "hearing" about that also... thanks...

    post script:

i forgot to add the sx/sp bit until jiggly posted...

It smells closer to numerology than MBTI is to astrology.
--Mention of these things is so taboo, they aren't even allowed a name for the prohibition. It is just not done.

There's been some discussion here and there.

I find it to be a useful complement at times. Not for myself, but for understanding others. My etype is 5w6. Boring.

Enneagram numerology relationships ~ MBTI function orders in terms of "ever expanding system that supposedly explains everything and fits together in beautiful harmony but quickly falls apart under scrutiny" IMO.
Too bad, Lady Une. You were far too lenient.
As a soldier, yes. But as a civilian I lived an austere life.

    5w4 sp/sx but sometimes sx/sp, who knows

my "tritype" is 548 which makes me an intense, arrogant, opinionated, cynical whatever. i don't remember any of the positive qualities i'm supposed to have.

    I love the enneagram! It's fun. I've been 6 > 5 > 4 > 3 > 7. I prefer SLOAN the most though!

    7w8 possible ENTP

I relate to this description too damn much... like 99.999%

Anyone else a 7w8 sx/so? Can you describe your personality to me? Personally, I seem to be sort of obsessed with internal self improvement like keeping a positive mindset, letting go of fear, staying confident, analyzing everything, using my emotions to learn more about myself, seeing everything objectively. I put happiness and growth first and foremost, and I get frustrated when others don't seem to care that they feel like shit or their life sucks. I don't think I have an addictive personality, but I think that's because addiction would get in the way of my happiness and growth. I think I am charismatic. I do think I have a hard time understanding others pain. I understand why they are in pain, because I understand the logistics behind their personality and why their mind works the way it does. But it's hard for me to understand when people don't care that they are in pain or don't do anything to try to change it, or worse do things to try to mask it. I'm an open book. I don't believe in masking anything. I don't believe in mistakes. Or regrets. I'm bold. I want to be as futuristic as possible and as objective as possible. I also place high value on having an interesting life, and I love to motivate others to learn more about themselves in order to fully express themselves and make the most out of life. But despite having an intense personality, I think I come across as rather carefree bc not many things bother me. Or if they do bother me, I'm honest and upfront about it. I've always seen myself as a bit of a paradox. I also relate to type 4, but I'm not melancholic whatsoever. And I relate to type 5, but I don't fear intimacy, I embrace it to its fullest!!!

Yeah. Just as useful for people screening as anything else.

E 1 or 3: run or be bullied.

    E 5, 9, 6, 8: cool.

    E 7: I can't keep up with you.

    E 2: avoid, martyr, passive-aggressive.

E 4: take it again when you're older.

For me, more useful than The Great Sorter for predicting compatibility.

    Going to play this game...'

5: will probably have amazing mindblowing philosophical conversations with.

6: insecure, driven more by fear than love, can't relate to that

4: the artists, always beautifully intriguing but the self-pity and casual reference to suicide is a bit trite

2: friendly, i like nice people just as much as i like mean ones

7: let's take a bus to nowhere and take drugs!!!

8: I want to be you, you ubermenschean types

    1: i admire you

3: a little part of me is 3 and I feel slight shame
