Oh, wait, I think it was hydrangeas that I got my mother. We had fake plastic hydrangeas, then I bought real flowers and I remember thinking they were the same when I compared them.

Oh, it sounds like carnations are hydrangeas. The fake ones had individual little flower looking things like hydrangeas. I'm not 100% sure the real one were like that.

    I like tulips. Simply elegant.

    Smell: magnolias and lilacs.

It depends on where I'm at and what mood I'm in. I like the wild orchids that grow in the northwest. They're such a pleasant little surprise on a dreary day, small and perfect and creeping out of the greenery.

In the south: honeysuckle, citrus blossoms. In the deep south, confederate jasmine, ginger lily. I love walking around on a balmy night surrounded by spicy, heady scents.

It's nice to have some color in the house in autumn but I hate it when cut flowers start to rot. It seems like a waste.

Here are some nice protips for making cut flowers last longer:

    - keep out of sunlight
    - keep out of wind
    - the lower the room temp, the better, unless they're orchids
    - change the vase water everyday and always keep it more than halfway full
    - recut flower stems everytime you change the vase water
    - don't add flower food because the flowers will age prematurely.

You could even make roses last two weeks following these steps (depending on the type of rose).
