Yes it is your thread, so your prerogative. I guess I hadn't considered the possibility of stumbling across a picture of a dead animal until mxx brought it up. I'm going to opt out of viewing this thread since there are no guarantees though. I hope you eat the meat you kill? If you are using it for sustenance, then good luck.

I like that caliber, I have a Browning A-bolt chambered for it. Kinda on the small side for Elk, though. I don't actually hunt (shooting is just a hobby for me) but my father does. I can just hear him saying, "yeah it'll hunt, but you better get an accurate vital hit or you'll be chasing the damn thing all over the mountain". How close do you think you'll be able to get for the shot?

Well, I've shot a lot and feel pretty confident with military rifles and rounds. Hunting rifles are still knew to me. I've put a box of ammo through the rifle once and zeroed some decent groups on milk jugs at 200 yards. I'm going to put another box through it next weekend and try a longer distance. If I can get an bull elk broadside at no longer than 300 yards, that's a shot I'm going to take.

There's the pack-out. I'd say 70 pounds or so. That'll be a fun hike up the mountain, just like Afghanistan.

Ha! maybe if I find one, but the antlers from the animal I shoot are going on my wall.
