    Piggy-backing on this statement to say (1) null results are rarely published, which is problematic (2) the pressure for people to pump out research papers clutters the databases

    Agreed, though certainly there is a push to change this (and not just by the Journal of Negative Results). Clinical trials on clinical trials.gov have requirements now to publish negative results, I believe.
