Lol that wasn't supposed to sound defensive, I was merely stating a fact.

I'm left handed. I thought I used each thumb equally, but I've just been watching myself type and realise that although both thumbs are over the space bar, I only use the left.

Oh. Oops. I've got a lot of extreme Fs in my day to day life. Probably causes me to habitually assume defensiveness.

I use my right index finger to hit the space bar.

I noticed when I type I only use the index, middle, and ring fingers on each hand. I use my pinkie fingers only when I have to press shift or control to modify a letter. My thumbs are entirely out of the equation.

I know it's just own-pov bias, but I have trouble imagining how anyone could use an index finger on the space bar without getting a cramp in their hand.

My guess is they move from the shoulder. If you use your shoulder to draw your elbow back and out, your index finger will naturally rotate to over the space bar. I discovered this trying to work out how to do it without stumbling in my typing.
For some, "how", not "why", is the fundamental unit of measure for curiosity. This divergence is neither parallel, nor straight. Where one might have a "why?-5" problem, it might only be a "how?-2" question. But then, there are also many things where the "why?" is immediately obvious but the "how?" is best measured in centuries of perpetual wonder. Both approaches have their drawbacks.

If one is superior, the other is unaware of it.

My guess was that it is accomplished by not anchoring the hand and moving the entire hand down to the space bar instead of having the thumb already there.

The only reason I didn't include index finger options in the poll is that it never occurred to me anyone would use an index finger for a space.

I'm ambidextrous but I don't use any of my thumb for space bar. I never really thought about it until this thread and I have to type a sentence to find out.

    Interesting.

I could only see using the index finger for a hunt and pecker (i.e. only the index fingers are used to type).

I honestly have no idea until I started typing this. Seems to be all the right thumb. Right handed.
