I hate the movie 'v for vendetta' fairly passionately. Have you read the graphic novel which preceded it? I couldn't comprehend how the directors took perfectly excellent scenes from the book and twisted them, aiming to (unnecessarily) 'americanise' it, or make it superficially line up with the george bush stuff that was happening back then, while apparently being unaware that doing that completely altered the tone of the whole thing and introduced some ridiculous plot holes and character inconsistencies. Afterwards I found that the author wants all connection of his name and the film completely erased. It's a terrible movie.

I don't know about 'great films'. I think the best case is just that there are some films that are interesting/different and not insultingly stupid.

Son, we live in a world that has movies, and those movies have to be guarded by men who hate Avatar. Who's gonna do it? You? You, the Coen Brothers? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Na'vi, and you curse the RDA. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that hating Avatar, while tragic, probably saved film; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves movies.

You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall -- you need me on that wall.

We use words like "story," "character," "editing." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who likes Avatar under the blanket of the very criticism that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it.

I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a ticket to Ferdinand and stand the post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think you're entitled to!

Glimpses do ye seem to see of that mortally intolerable truth; that all deep, earnest thinking is but the intrepid effort of the soul to keep the open independence of her sea; while the wildest winds of heaven and earth conspire to cast her on the treacherous, slavish shore?

    I would watch that
