    Post Peak-Argument

    Pretentious ramble time!

What if we, as a Web-faring people, are finally within sight of "Peak Argument"?

The ascent to this peak is driven by the novelty of being able to call folks thousands of miles away dumbasses for not agreeing with you (backed up by decisive and generally brilliant arguments), leading to you feeling a deserved sense of superiority.

The decline from this peak is driven by the fatigue of being repeatedly called a dumbass by folks thousands of miles away who disagree with you (based on willful misinterpretation and generally dumbass arguments), leading to them feeling a delusional sense of superiority.

We've all suckled on that Nash equilibrium. But what happens after the tit runs dry?

What happens when people get tired of misinterpretation, of rhetoric, of dogmatism, of misinformation and disinformation, of oversimplifications, of truthiness, of hasty generalisations, of victimisation, of oneupsmanship, of wrong(ful) first impressions, of quotes out of context, of argumentum ad populum, of reductio ad Hitlerum, of false fallacy claims, of homophobia, xenophobia, misogyny, patriarchy, mansplaining, white privilege, male privilege, cis-privilege, race cards, gender cards, placards, and safe spaces, of deconstructivism, deliberate obfuscation, ideology, demagoguery, appeal to authority, of a glaring lack of empathy, a wanton disregard for nuance, and of all those other textures of electronic bickering?

    What happens Post Peak-Argument?

Will we reach something like a hive-mind enlightenment? A human singularity?

What will fill our Thursday nights?

I suspect there will be a lot of statues cluttering up the everywhere.
Most of time, when people ask why something terrible happened, they don't realize they are looking for someone to blame.

    What if, for example
The borders lost their customs offices
    And we invaded each other
And lent each other volcanoes and streams
And copper and anthropologists and sugar
And wool and proteins and rainbows
    And educators and railways
And poets and prosists and oil
And left contraband to the wind
    And traveling lovers

    What if, for example
The sun and the rain belonged to us
And the sky and the earth too
And the provinces of our hearts
And the land of our labor

    As equals among equals
In a world of peers and no others
A lovely folly of the sane
    A certain strategem of justice
    Checking off the omens
    That have started coming true
    Having once been mere islands
    Becoming urgent archipelagos

    Lastly, what if
There was just the night, and a house
And a clock that wasn't ticking towards death
While science advanced to the point
    Of isolating the xenophobic virus
    Our country a salty baptism
    Stretching from sea to sea
While an abyss would still exist
But none threw themselves into its silence

Indifference-enabled corruption and graft until the cupboards are bare and we start from scratch, arguing about how to kill stuff w/ spears.

Glimpses do ye seem to see of that mortally intolerable truth; that all deep, earnest thinking is but the intrepid effort of the soul to keep the open independence of her sea; while the wildest winds of heaven and earth conspire to cast her on the treacherous, slavish shore?

"Post–Peak Argument", see I even used an en dash! I was hiding my hyphenation talents under a bushel so people would like me — a little trick I learned back in my school days.

Jeez, stop oppressing me with your book recommendations. Next thing you know you'll be lending me the book, asked me every lunch break how far have I read, then after a few months have passed and I haven't even started to read it you'll be asking me politely when I think I'm gonna finish it because you want to "lend" "it" "to" "somebody" "else".

I was always impartial to the mace myself but to each his own, even if objectively inferior.
