reducing a race of people to a sexual experience... well, you can argue that's racist, then you can consider how racism has historically been used as a tool by imperialists to conquer and exploit people in all sorts of ways, by dehumanizing them for example. isn't that where it all begins?

the racial sexual stereotypes are projected onto the individual no matter what they're actually like. aren't they looking for that? the stereotypes are transformed, exchanged and projected onto different groups appropriate to whatever the current political motivation is. (US context) many sexual stereotypes of women of color can be traced back to times when white man-black woman, white man-native woman, etc. relationships were taboo and not accepted in white society, developed as rationalizations to take the "blame" away from the white man. i think some of this has carried over into today. i also think attraction is more complicated than "aesthetics" a lot of the time, but analyzing sexuality in these terms makes a lot of people uncomfortable because then they have to consider the possibility that what they want to see as their sexual attraction and expression may really be an expression of power. that's hard for some to grasp. they feel too entitled, or they really feel that relationships are based on simple things.

The grass is always greener on the other side of the hill, except that's not grass and that's not a hill.

Actually it might just boil down to a biological urge for genetic diversity, the extreme opposite of mating with your sister.

This was an interesting read. The gist of it is that general "fetishism" is normal and natural, but fetish is a pathologizing term so we should say "interest" instead.

I liked the part about how guys search online porn for the same thing over and over again. I can only think of one highly specific thing that I've repeatedly searched for before. Can you guess what it is? Hints: (1) It's not racial, (2) when I first saw it I couldn't tell if it was real or not, but (3) I quickly realized that it's mostly if not all fake after seeing more of it.

I wonder how much is cultural vs. physical features. Do the physical features become fetishized because the fetish starts with culture, or the other way around? I assume the former, so that a different culture lends a mystery and makes another race "exotic".

Oh the other hand, I know there are black guys that only date white women, and culture doesn't seem to be hugely different there.

If everything for males is about power, and it's impossible in our society for this not to be so, than what is the point of talking about it?

And why don't men of other races care about power?

Where did you get the "impossible in our society for this not to be so" part?

And why don't men of other races care about power?
Of course they do. And where did that question come from?

    David Wong, regarding Chicago
Six centuries ago, the pre-Colombian natives who settled here named this region with a word which in their language means "the Mouth of Shadow". Later, the Iroquois who showed up and inexplicably slaughtered every man, woman and child renamed it "Seriously, Fuck that Place". When French explorer Jacques Marquette passed through the area he marked his map with a drawing of a brownish blob emerging from between the Devil's buttocks.
