    Read & write more.

Writing things down and or verbalising them will help with memory recall.
All truth passes through three stages:

    First, it is ridiculed.
    Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as self-evident.

It does require some creativity but mnemonics is one!

The obvious answer to me is spaced repetition. For like 20 minutes a day you can, over years, grow an impressive repertoire of memorized information. I have been doing just this. I have 3500 flashcards in Mnemosyne, some of which are 1 word on the front and back, others are more like a paragraph. Yet I basically remember all of them. On my daily reviews I tend to get in the 90s percentage-wise. Right now I'm spending about 15 minutes per day on reviews.

My new year's resolution in 2018, which I kept, was to add 3 cards per day. By the end of the year it was taking like an hour a day. The good news is, if you stop adding new cards, the existing ones gradually expand time between repetitions and the time commitment falls back down gradually. So like right now I have some cards I won't see for several years and many more I won't see for months. I am going to be particularly busy IRL for the next couple years so once that's over maybe I'll start adding again.

Maintaining 3500 for 10-15 minutes a day isn't bad though. I'm pretty happy with what I know now. Like I know all the world capitals, elements, the Roman emperors, geologic epochs, moons of the solar system, best picture winners, Chinese dynasties, tons of wars and battles, shit load of stuff about medicine, can quote various things like bible verses and other stuff I wanna be able to quote, have a larger vocabulary, etc. Mostly it's actually stuff that I haven't done enough of to categorize. It's enough that there are frequent connections I can make in daily life.

Oh, I read over the "fun" part.

But yeah, it is anyway, lol.

I have a notable experience. Probably not going to be accepted by some, but I share it anyway. I ordered some samples online. I ingested said samples. I waited and then something unusual happened. I felt very light headed and fatigued. Then I felt insatiably hungry and thirsty. It can make you unempathetic so it's good to adapt a perceptual strategy where you bounce your gaze a bit to avoid scaring people with the intensity it causes. Over the course of two days when I would close my eyes I could see, I mean vividly 'see' the spaces (complete with details like titles on books stuff like that ) I inhabit on a regular basis. I could easily remember and summarize stuff (that's a weakness of mine). I also couldn't sleep because I'm sensitive to stimulants. The end.

It works. Imagine if you're grad student caliber. You'd probably be in top form on modafinil.
