If the goal is to save lives, shooting everyone who leaves their house is counterproductive. But if the goal is to get rid of the disease entirely so you can get on with making widgets for the west to buy, I guess this might work. The west has never balked at buying stuff made cheap through brutality - provided said brutality isn't leaving bones where westerners have to step over them on their way to the mall ... or online shopping cart.

If the goal is to look good on paper, I suppose either strategy would work.

Apropos of nothing: If karma was a universal constant, everyone who hoarded toilet paper would have chronic diarrhea right now.
...What? Is there a reputable source claiming China have been shooting people to fix coronavirus? Are you referring to whatever snopes debunked here? From what I have seen, they built hospitals, and much more effectively enforced stopping movement of people. Which is what a lot of people in the west really wish their governments would do.

I hope China really can get rid of it, so we can go back to enjoying cheap shit on the back of practically slave labour, and we can not feel that our actions may cause the suffering of others somewhere.

I thought I was engaging in patently ridiculous hypotheticals.

Ah, okay. I wasn't sure how that was functioning in the context of the whole.

What if Buffalo Bill was afraid of getting the virus?

Also, someone had mentioned China supressing knowledge of the virus (the CDC was aware of Covid in November and starting a series of hiring people that could be spokespersons for the potential pandemic, suggesting possible complicity or insider knowledge that China was also well aware of?)

A meme was already circulating at the beginning of January regarding a potential pandemic and all the while Trump was oblivious and sent assistance to China which he is now recouping, his claim of being prepared neglected to inform manufacturers to ramp up production, and after cutting travel from China was in moratorium to golf.

So the same thing China was doing, our government is also doing:
Navy relieves captain who raised alarm about coronavirus outbreak on aircraft carrier

And China has also been targeting our Navy ships with EMF weapons

And Russia is sending us the same kinds of medical materials we apparently sent China

Authoritarian Populists Have Six Classic Moves. Trump’s Response to COVID-19 Uses Five of Them.

I'm getting Trumptards that seem to use groupthink-hegemony and fail to see the reason in
Spoiler: My Argument (Mein Kampf. . .)
Trump lies about what he said (that video you were defensive about my comment? Remember that one; it was precisely pointing out a previous statement that Trump was unwilling to be called out on.) He claims he was aware of the situation all this time when he was unwilling or ill-prepared; just as the NYC Doctor was well aware of when he acknowledges Trump throwing all the emergency pandemic supplies to help his friends in China, and very clearly favored his constituents in Florida (where his resort was of special emphasis for a number of parties to host?)

This is my consensus of government and economy. . .

Capitalism works to extract more from the workforce and bend the will of government which becomes more of an oligarchy/plutocracy and drifts away from republic ideologies (on the behest of the people, for the people; not continuing the wealth of aristocracy.)

Politics revolves around lobbyist and the interest of businesses; the politicians largely become wealthy due to corrupt nature—wealthy people become political due to the ease with which money becomes a machination for control of society--and workforces depend on representation from politics to ensure corruption does not compromise their opportunities and voice in political matters.

Populism plays an interest in the appeal to voter sentiment and cronyism is entrenched in the political landscape where insular ideologies are used to propel the “base” of corrupt sentiments (whereby people latch onto vicarious ego-fulfillment believing the leaders are there to benefit them and become co-dependent due to Stockholm Syndrome; pay people just enough so that they never leave, etc.) The vilest and corrupt dominate just as any business, which can only dominate by ensuring the “bottom line” is continuing to profit (which ultimately requires continued growth. . . if it can no longer grow because the “empire” has dwindled, then it either collapses or devours itself like Cronus and his/its offspring.)

Laws are in place to protect and ensure “checks and balances” without which all that great capitalism that has worked in the past can continue to represent the “greater good” (which is the whole point of this argument.) Corruption is the biggest threat to any political system which is devised to serve the interest of those it represents; if those it represents no longer have a voice (those lacking the socio-economic diversity to be represented) then it no longer benefits from a Judiciary system? It should become pretty clear that “money talks,” and without money politics mean little. . . It has ZERO interest in those that are not able to (not willing to?) benefit the class structure, which is precisely why the tax system is devised to ensure tax breaks and wealth accumulation continues to profer the “job creators” (or job killers that snuff out the competition and ensures outsourcing work to curtail legal responsibilities.)

Jeff Bezos bought the biggest house in Washington D.C. (talked about in this ( https://youtu.be/RVVfJVj5z8s ) documentary Amazon Empire: The Rise and Reign of Jeff Bezos (full film) | FRONTLINE ) to be right amidst the political landscape where he could groom the White House ilk with his social graces.

Keynes had an argument with Marx about the influence of money and how it would benefit the class structure of the workforce, and even with Keynesian economics you have the inevitable “dead zone” (something I just made up. . . sort of) where stimulus spending teeters off and has little bearing on inflationary spending (higher taxes; hence the corrupt nature of politics will not amend itself without a VERY SERIOUS look at where that money is going. . . GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!)

    Some articles to read:

It should be noted that significant traction made by the US economy was in exploiting “third world” resources; things such as the fruit industry came after we started to ignore the isolationism policies that were popular earlier in the 19th –century leading to the ‘banana republics’ in central/south America. The USD involved in oil trade, along with the Marshall Plan ensured a trade balance that ultimately favored the relatively unscathed US economy following WWII. Economically the US has had little reason to not favor Capitalism, however, given that we should be a dominate society in many ways, it begs to differ when considering the economy is a consumerist service economy with surprisingly low standards in much of anything else. . . Whether it’s “by design” to ensure the workforce becomes increasingly more useless and disenfranchised (increased gentrification to major cities with anything outside of those areas becoming more zombie-like?) will perhaps lend to the passivity of helplessness; the servile debt-laden consumers wondering how they will ever escape the misadventure of believing the “American dream.”

    Spoiler: Their bullshit response
fakenews? Really?! They started saying, he lies , in January 2016. So did Hillary Clinton, Barak Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Maxine Waters. Add Communist Bill Diblasio, Communist Xi, Iranian Ayatollahs, etc. This is all they say for 4 years. Proverbs 26:11: As a dog returns to what he vomits(for 4 years) so a fool repeats his folly, repeating the same line for 4 years. In mental health, this is called perseverating; people in acute states of psychosis do that. I was a mental health nurse for 3 years. What is your favorite flavor of Koolaid? And my mother was an executive secretary for a Democrat Socialists Congressman. I have some actual knowledge from campaigns, etc. Maybe Democrats Socialists will give you a tax cut.

It's generally agreed that the China New Years' festival is when the WHO warned on December 31 of the pre-existing cases that would pose a threat, and Dr. Zhong came out on the news reports in late January expressing significant concern about the transmittable nature of the virus. These were all echoes from little known warnings that echoed from Doctors that had come into contact with it and would die from it prior to 2020. The first quarantined people were Doctors (either from the Wuhan lab or from cases they were treating already from medical symptoms.)

The public was warned and health experts would have known about it at the turn of the New Year. https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsan...st-coronavirus

@pensive_pilgrim curious about your point of view: what should've happened regarding the virus however long ago? What would've been an ideal response?

Like our supermarket said; we're an hour from the factory that makes it which is next to one of the largest man made forests in the world... there will be no shortage of toilet paper.

I hope hospitals in the Bahamas have plenty of spare capacity.

Foreign-flagged ships are the norm in the cruise industry. By registering ships in the Bahamas, Panama and other countries, cruise companies can avoid U.S. taxes as well as employment and environmental laws. But now, the Coast Guard is telling those companies that their ships should seek medical care in the countries where they are registered, rather than rely on the U.S.

A guy I used to work with has a Filipina wife (who's got a photo of her with Duterte). They go over fairly frequently as she's a midwife and owns a health centre thingy. They both love Duterte in the way people love "strongmen".

Duterte hates drug dealers and all the other bad guys and people love him for killing all the bad guys (they don't know). Probably a bit like the lady who didn't want the Zandam to dock at Fort Lauderdale until she found out her aunt was on it and her uncle had died of a heart attack in her cabin...
