This nostalgia influenced tune is a result of the favorite band thread.
Oh, I've been listening to Filthy Haanz a lot lately. Perhaps not super original, but I like 'em.
A canon from J. S. Bach'sMusical Offering followed by ridiculously smooth jazz.
What I like about those guys is that they aren't afraid to mix western classical music paradigms into their music instead of defaulting to the classic bebop jazz clichés. Plus, John Lewis's (the pianist) solos are always like a song in it's own terms, with a theme, a development and a conclusion. A lot of jazz improvisitions sound like the soloist is basically just masturbating through his instrument, but this guy really tells a story.
And I really like the interplay between the piano and vibraphone (Milt "Bags" Jackson), it's almost like Baroque counterpoint. Lovely.
