    NES Games

    What are your favorites?

Do you think there's anything lost by playing through an emulator? What if you're screening from your computer to a projector? If yes, then are you the type to actually pay for retro consoles and games?

Just yesterday I was working a shift at a thrift store, and two ladies dropped a couple hundred bucks on a few old consoles and games. I thought the store owner was nuts for awhile, but I'm starting to see that focusing on retro games and old computer equipment is kind of a lucrative niche (though I imagine the majority of sales are still online).

Anyways. I'm focusing on NES right now. I'm sort of fascinated by old, terrible games. If I'm told that they absolutely suck, then they go to the top of my queue. The NES has an abundance of games that should've never been made, which is kind of beautiful in a way.

I'm working my way through 700+ roms right now.

The keepers so far: Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 2, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, Crystalis, Double Dragon, Batman, Ninja Gaiden, and Contra.

The worst of the worst: Werewolf: The Last Warrior, Target Renegade, Star Wars, Cobra Command, Fun House, Bad Street Brawler, and Action 52.

Presuming you have a good NES emulator, I wouldn't say much if anything is lost.

My favorites include: Zelda, Metroid, Final Fantasy, Rygar, Dragon Warrior, Mega Man...

I used to play Kid Icarus and Karate Kid quite a bit. Contra as well.

Emulating is def the way to go imo.

As far as faves that haven't been mentioned: Castlevania, A Boy and his Blob, Little Nemo: the Dream Master, Duck Tales

If you have other people to play with: Gauntlet, Spy vs Spy, Bomberman, Super Dodgeball

That's all I can think of right now.

I sometimes fire up Duck Tales just to hear the boss fight song because I dig it.

Underrated - River City Ransom, Adventures of Lolo 1-3, Base Wars, Kick Master, Faxanadu off the top of my head. I like Contra, Mario, Castlevania and Punch-Out.

Star Tropics But, I haven't tried playing it on the interwebs lately at all. It's my favorite game.
